This latest development has come about due to the tides coming in from the Umm Al Quwain direction.

Khalid Al Housing, Head of Health and Environment Department at Ajman Municipality said the red tide started on the Al Zowra beaches at 12 midnight on Wednesday and then spread to the Ajman beaches.

The Municipality and police cordoned off the areas to prevent people from collecting the fish and selling it.

The police also informed Ajman Fishermen Association and warned them not to allow any fishing until the red tide disappears. The Municipality’s inspectors have made sure none of the dead fish reaches the souk and other market areas. A committee comprising representatives from police, Municipality and Ministry of water has been formed to study the phenomena and monitor it on a daily bases. Samples of dead fishes and water have been taken for analysis. Red tide is a natural phenomena that appears every year on the country’s coastline but this year it has increased and has lasted long due to the changes in weather. Kamil Al Hamadi, a coast guard from the Ajman Civil Defense said he saw large quantities of fish washed ashore by the waves and saw young boys playing with the fishes.
