The relief supplies included new towels and blankets, canned goods and instant food, which were packaged on Friday as part of a programme organised by Philippine Presidential Awardee 2010, Wafa R Kasimieh, bilingual senior religious advisor of the Edification and Religious Guidance Department, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Dubai Government. Kasimieh was honoured by Philippine President Noynoy Aquino on December 14, 2010 as Banaag Awardee for making significant achievements in assisting distressed Filipino workers, advocating for their protection and improving their working environment.
The charity event was made possible in coordination with five Filipino organisations – CADD Group with their president, Dante Delizo; Overseas Filipino Civil Engineers Association (OFCEA) with their president Albert Swerte; Lambuanaonons in the UAE with their president Inocencio Legayada; and, Filipino Association of Travel Agency (FATA) with their president Daisy Sarmiento.
She said that seven more boxes will be sent by sea at a later date and urged interested Filipino expatriates to help the flood victims. Donations can be brought to Assahaba Centre, Abu Hail Road in Deira. Donors may also call her up on 050 6593767.
