On a lazy Friday afternoon, we visited the Wokyo Noodle Bar in JLT, Dubai to try out their Ikigai Noodle Brunch.
For the uninitiated, Ikigai is a Japanese concept which means 'Being Happy' or 'Finding the reason to be happy'. We went with our reservations as we thought there won't be many vegetarian dishes on their menu. To our relief, we had more than our fill of veggies.
At Wokyo, you can make your meals in three easy steps - Pick your sauce, second go for the base you prefer and third, pick the protein of your choice. You can make your perfect bowl of ramen noodles with the variety of ingredients.
For the sides, we tried Homemade Spring Rolls with veg stuffing and Crispy Reckon, the sliced lotus root chips - both fried to perfection.
The soup base was a bit mild for our taste, so make your pick according to your spice levels. The bowl portions are perfect for one person and won't leave you bloated, even if you over-indulge.
For deserts, a must try is the Matcha Aisu Kurimu, the traditional matcha green tea soft serve. Each soft serve is freshly made as matcha powder is whisked with ice-cream.
If you sit outside in the open, check out the origami tables where you can fold papers and make origami objects. The boardgames on some tables give a warm community feeling to the place.
Overall, we found Wokyo to be a laid-back noodle bar with a hippie vibe - apt to spend our weekends.
While at the restaurant, also learn some Japanese words from the friendly staff!
