Revamped Sharjah Eid Musalla to be opened this year

Dh10-million project is expected to be completed by fourth quarter of 2014, says Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Sharjah, on Sunday unveiled a mega project for developing the infrastructure at the Eid Musalla in Sharjah downtown.

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al Hajiri, Director of RTA Sharjah for Roads Affairs, said the project is worth Dh10 million.

“The Fadel Bin Abbas road connecting the Buriada Bin Khasib road and Al Zahra road will be rebuilt as part of the project.”

The Eid Musalla will have interlocking paving stones. “The plot will be used as parking spaces for the visitors of the Sharjah Municipality’s new premises.”

The open area in the Musalla, which is used for offering the Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha prayers, is slated to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year, he explained. Al Hajiri said the revamped Fadel Bin Abbas road will have two lanes.

“The 7.3m-wide road will be equipped with 5.35m-wide walkways on both sides with interlocking paving stones.”

He indicated that the pavement can be used for offering prayers and parking vehicles. “The external parking spaces off the 2,500-sqm Musalla will be used as regular parking plots.” Al Hajiri said 60 per cent of the pavement works at the Musalla has been completed.

“The project (also) involves the construction of an integrated rain water drainage network.”

These are in addition to other public works, including the installation of lampposts, signboards, power cables and water supplies, he said. “The project, which is in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is closely monitored by Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.”

Al Hajiri said the project would boost traffic flow, ensure road users’ safety and curb traffic accidents.
