The tribal piece, inspired by Ibnbattuta Mall, composed by drummer, Alvin Atkinson, is consistent with the ensemble’s commitment to drawing influences from their travels.

The event was part of the Rhythm Road – American Music Abroad programme where performers of jazz and urban music styles tour countries with limited exposure to live American culture.

Organised by the American Consulate in Dubai and American Centre for Press and Cultural Affairs in conjunction with the Dubai Cultural Council, Rhythm Road seeks to take American music around the world, allowing musicians to reach out across cultural language and social barriers.

The tour that began on February 4, included stops at Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Their performance at Dubai was their concluding performance.
