He also presided over the prize distribution ceremony of the senior section of the school that was attended by popular Malayalam film personality Mohan Lal, distinguished educationists, parents, students and faculty members of the school.

The prize distribution ceremony of the school is being held over two days with Ismail Mohammed Ismail, Director of Private Education, Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) being the chief guest on Tuesday. The special highlight of the second day was the installation of the Lego mindstorms for schools in a robotic centre, where children understand the basic concepts of mechanics and engineering.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Joseph congratulated the young achievers of the school and urged them to act as role models for the others. He also emphasised the real meaning of education. "Education is not quantified by the number of degrees one acquires, but by the ability to stand up and defend the rights of the poor and the feeble," he said, making a special reference to the school student who had been awarded the bravery award for rescuing a drowning man. Dr Joseph and Mr Mohan Lal gave away prizes to the students of the school from classes 5-12, including special awards for extracurricular activities and distinguished services.

Earlier, Mr Darryl Bloud, Principal of Modern High School, recounted the achievements of the students in various spheres, including academics, sports, arts, preservation of environment and community service.

He reminded parents that students needed to be encouraged and learn to value the work that they do, instead of being ccompared with other students. "Parents," he said "need to be both supportive as well as encouraging to instil confidence in their children, so that they could forge ahead and face the myriad challenges of life."
