Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa arrived last week in Saudi Arabia on an inspection visit to the Bahraini forces participating in the Saudi- led coalition.
He met the royal artillery task force's officers, non-commissioned officers and personnel stationed in Jazan region and pilot officers of the Royal Bahraini Air Force stationed at the King Fahd Air Base in Taif. He attended a detailed briefing on the progress of operations, also inspected a number of BDF military vehicles and jet fighters participating in the operations.
Shaikh Khalifa lauded the role of Bahraini task force personnel of the Bahraini Royal Guard, Royal Artillery, Royal Bahraini Air Force, and Royal Bahraini Navy participating within the Arab coalition.
He praised the courage of BDF soldiers who carry out their national duty of defending Arab national security and maintaining regional security and stability.
Shaikh Khalfia paid tributes to the sacrifices of the brave martyrs who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Crown Prince attends launch event of Manama's 'Capital of Gulf Tourism 2016'
Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and First Deputy Prime Minister attended last week the Manama Capital of Gulf Tourism 2016 launch event, at the iconic Bab al Bahrain landmark in Manama.
During the event, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, announced an initiative by Crown Prince to renovate and revitalise areas of Bab Al Bahrain and the old Manama Souq.
The initiative forms part of the Crown Prince's commitment to supporting and maintaining the Kingdom's heritage and improving services for citizens. The initiative will be implemented under the supervision of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, in cooperation with the Old Souq Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mobile application for postal services launched
A new mobile application for Postal Services has been launched by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications in collaboration with the E-government Authority.
In collaboration with the E-government Authority the Ministry has developed the Bahrain Post Services mobile application which comprises enhancements of additional new services along with numerous features that employ high levels of technology.
The application provides new services such as 'Mailbox Renewal' which allows users to renew and pay their yearly renewal fees online, a feature to view the stamp collections for stamp collectors and visitors who are interested in Bahrain's philately and heritage; and a feature that allows users to receive notifications and updates related to the postal services. To facilitate the use of the application, a detailed list of FAQs is available on the app, as well as a Demo to assist users in navigating the services.
Total workforce grew by six per cent in third quarter
Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, has said the total number of workers in Bahrain in the third quarter of last year grew by six per cent.
The minister said the number of national workers registered with the General Organisation of Social Insurance (GOSI) increased to more than 158,182 by the end of the third quarter (Q3) last year (2015). The total number of expatriate workers was approximately 559 thousand.
Humaidan said the total number of workers in Bahrain was 717,218 by the end of the third quarter recording an increase by six percent compared with 667,845 for the same period in 2014. He said the increase was due to satisfaction of the requirements for implementation of the Government Action Plan and the government's efforts in paving attractive investment environment in the Kingdom to expand the current business and attract new overseas investments resulting in the increase on the demand for local and expat workers.
