The move comes after the Public Works Department recently opened the route heading towards Dubai from Sharjah through Al Wahda Street, which had previously faced massive traffic congestion.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Yousif Al Suwaihi, Director-General of Sharjah Public Works said, “the newly opened routes will facilitate easy traffic movement on Al Wahda Street, considered one of the vital and important roads in the emirate of Sharjah. It would also help a great deal in easing traffic jam on King Faisal Road.”
He added that the department is making all efforts to accomplish the task of resolving the traffic problems faced by motorists coming into Sharjah and heading towards Dubai.
Commenting on another new route from under the bridge, Al Suwaihi said that after the completion of the works of the interchange, the third route will be opened for motorists in January 2007.
Al Suwaihi said that several new road projects had been completed in various areas of Sharjah by the Department of Public Works under the government’s plan to improve road conditions in the emirate. The areas to benefit from these road projects among other include Abu Shagara, Al Madam and Khor Fakkan.
The department has brought about some changes in the intersections to ease traffic congestion in Abu Shagara. The road improvement project in Al Madam area is also one of the top priorities, particularly with regard to the lanes and bylanes in and around the government housing complexes. “In the same area, the department has built parking lots, pedestrian walkways and several subways,” he noted.
