The RTA also expressed deep regret to the family of the deceased policeman.

Three weeks ago, Ahmed Obad, a traffic policeman on patrol, was attending an accident involving a car in the Airport Tunnel. As he was directing the traffic movement, a car hit him, killing him on the spot.

The cameras installed in the tunnel had recorded the accident and two employees who were monitoring the images from the camera at monitoring centre recorded them on their mobile phone cameras and circulated the clips among many people.

Kawther Kazim, Director of Human Resources and Development Department, said the RTA deplored the conduct of the two employees, which was against the norms, ethics and principles adopted by the authority.

‘The employees concerned have been referred to internal investigation and have been subjected to severe punishments in accordance with the provisions of Dubai HR Law 27/2006.’

However, she did not specify the punishments given to the duo.

A high-level delegation from the RTA would visit the family of the deceased policeman to offer condolences and apologies of the RTA for this irresponsible behaviour of its employees, said Kawther.

She added that all systems of the RTA were subject to measures and controls that prevented leakage of any information from the control room.

‘The RTA will take stricter actions should such behaviour be repeated,’ added the official.
