Safety certificate must to seek insurance

ABU DHABI — The Civil Defence Director-General, Major-General Mohammed Salem bin Kardous Al Ameri has urged all insurance companies to cooperate with the Civil Defence departments when providing insurance to industrial establishments, such as factories, warehouses, skyscrapers, commercial institutions and companies.

Such establishments should duly abide by the conditions and precautions of protection and safety to help protect people and properties against fire hazards, he said, adding that a safety compliance certificate issued by the department should be submitted in advance. The Civil Defence is the only department authorised to issue the safety certificate that acknowledges compliance with the prescribed safety conditions and precautions, he stated.

A safety certificate is compulsory for any company or establishment to seek insurance. It should be an indispensable part of the insurance policy. Should any insurance company fail to provide the safety certificate, it shall be held responsible for violation, Al Ameri warned.

This safety issue should be given priority when insuring all establishments against fire hazards, he said.
