Islamabad: Former foreign minister Sahibzada Yaqoob Ali Khan died here after a protracted illness. He was 95.
Born in 1920 in Rampur, Indian UP province, Sahibzada Yaqoob joined army from where he retired as lieutenant general.
After retiring from the army, he embarked on a career as a diplomat.
He remained Pakistan's ambassador to France, the United States and the Soviet Union from 1972 to 1982.
He served as foreign minister from 1982 to 1991. He also served as caretaker foreign minister from 1996 to 1997.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Sahibzada Yaqoob.
The premier, in a message, lauded the meritorious services of Sahibzada Yaqoob for the country as a seasoned and refined diplomat during his postings on Pakistan's important missions abroad.
