Sama channel to launch programme on heritage

DUBAI — Sama Dubai television channel has announced the launch of a new programme Al Maidan which will feature the popular Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Contest 'Faza Illyolah' on TV.

The programme to be shot every Thursday at the Global Village at 9pm, will be aired every Saturday, from February 18 to April 1.

Abdul Latif Al Gergawi, General Manger of Dubai Sama TV, revealed that the Al Maidan programme is being produced at an estimated cost of Dh3,800,000. The programme aims to educate UAE and GCC youth and Arabs about the local heritage. It would also allow people from all over the world to learn about UAE heritage and history.

According to Al Gergawi, Dubai Sama TV has set up a qualified team to present the programme in a better way. Their web site www.almaidan.ae will provide details about the contest in general as well as post updates on the results of the contest.

The programme which will be presented by Sood Al Kaabi will have 24 competitors participating throughout the three months. Every week about four competitors will participate in the game show. The one who receives the highest number of SMS's will be awarded Dh300,000 and a 2006 model Volkswagen car.

Several singers are expected to participate in the programme including popular UAE singers, Hamad Al Amri, Haza Al Minhali, Harbi Al Amri, Alwasmi, Fadil Al Mazroui and Fayez Al Saeed. Many UAE poets will also participate in the programme.

“We expect it to be a big success. It can compete with any foreign programmes aired on other television channels across the globe," said Al Gergawi, adding that Sama TV will soon launch a huge media campaign to raise awareness on the programme.
