Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday moved the election tribunal for certified copy of its ruling annulling his election from Lahore constituency NA-122 against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.
Ayaz told reporters he needs the copy to file a petition in the Supreme Court against the tribunal's decision. He said his first concern is to seek suspension of the tribunal's judgment for restoration of his membership of the National Assembly.
He evaded question whether he would reoccupy speaker's chair. Most observers say he has lost moral authority to retain the speaker's post even if the Supreme Court suspends the verdict.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Pervez Rashid has said the tribunal has done great injustice to Ayaz. The verdict of the tribunal is prejudicial and discriminatory.
Ayaz met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who supported his decision to adopt legal process for undoing tribunal's ruling.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has reiterated that he had nothing against Ayaz who was once founder member of the PTI. He said he simply wanted to reform the election process.
Talking to reporters after a lengthy session with party leaders here, Imran demanded that the four provincial nominees in the Election Commission must resign following remarks by the inquiry commission that gross irregularities and serious lapses were committed in the 2013 polls.
