A Saudi national was sentenced to three days in prison and 30 lashes for biting his wife and beating her up, reports Saudi Gazette.
According to the report, the Criminal Court in the City of Riyadh gave the woman the option of waiving the punishment, but if she decides otherwise she can witness the punishment being carried out.
This is the first time a Saudi court has allowed a woman to witness the lashing of her husband.
The woman filed a complaint against her husband, accompanied by a medical report.
Doctors who examined the wife said she was in a terrible psychological state. They also reported a deep wound on her left shoulder and other bruises, which confirmed that she was beaten up.
The man pleaded guilty and said he committed the crime under extreme mental pressure.
When questioned, the husband expressed his regret about what he had done to his wife.
