Saudi Arabia is providing thousands of women employed in the private sector with safe, reliable and high-quality transportation services in order to accommodate a more affordable commute to their location of employment.
Wusool, the government subsidised initiative's main objective is to create more efficient means of transportation by reducing the costs of travel for Saudi women, increasing their participation in the labour market, while simultaneously offering dependable transit support for working women who have challenges in finding systemic transportation.
Khalid Abu Abalkhail, official spokesman of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF) announced this week that 15,428 Saudi women applied for the female transportation programme.
Abalkhail was also quoted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying that '[the] Wusool programme was introduced as a solution to overcome the difficulties women face going to and from their workplace; by ensuring high-quality and safe transportation services'.
For the first six months, all Saudi women will receive 80 per cent coverage according to Mr. Abalkhail.
The Wusool initiative is aligned the Kingdom's Vision 2030 strategy.
