The official said that a decision to this effect was taken by the MoE yesterday. Using his mobile phone camera, a student of the same school had secretly filmed the teacher in the act of beating up the student and chasing the other. The film was used as an evidence against the teacher, and led to the termination of his services, the MoL official said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, has warned teachers against giving corporal punishment on, or threatening, students. Dr Hassan said that the school authorities would be liable for action in case students were meted out corporal punishment by teachers.

The minister issued the warning while inspecting the centres where the candidates who had applied for the posts of Central Department Directors at the MoE, appeared for interviews yesterday. The interviews will conclude today.
