Schools donate for mosques, well in Indonesia, Somalia

Delegations from the Al Gub and Al Byda primary schools recently handed over the donations to the Ras Al Khaimah branch of the UAE Red Crescent Authority.

“We think it is a part and parcel of our mission to teach our students about caring for their human fellows, particularly the underprivileged ones,” Zineb Salim Al Refai, Principle of Al Gub School, told Khaleej Times.

“We are also trying to teach them how to extend help to those who have been affected with wars or natural disaster.”

The school’s staff and students have donated Dh49,000 to build a mosque and dig a well in Indonesia.

“This donation carries a very simple message to our students that we have to show a minimum degree of caring to our brethren of Islam and humanity in general,” Mouzzah Al Taboor, the Principal of Al Byda School, said.

The staff and students of the school have donated Dh34,000 to build a mosque in Somalia with capacity to accommodate 160 worshippers. “Schools should not be regarded as mere academic organisations that only spoon-feed students with academic information, but also as important catalysts that teach them the authentic and deeply rooted ethical and religious values of our nation,” she said.

While Indonesia was affected by last year’s tsunami, civil strife has been rife in Somalia for years.

“The students of both schools also donate some money on continuous basis to sponsor a number of needy orphans throughout the world,” Al Taboor added.

The two institutions also organise free Iftar for the fasting people during the holly month of Ramadan.
