Seminar lays stress on ‘sugar syrup’ in animal feed

DUBAI — The introduction of ‘sugar syrup’ to the feed market could bring in sea changes in animal feeding system and make animal production more efficient by replacing grain, a seminar on Nutrition and Feed Technology was told yesterday.

Speakers at the seminar, organised by Al Khaleej Sugar (AKS) Company at Radisson SAS Hotel, felt that by providing glucose to the animals through their feed could reduce the metabolic heat production in animals and also balance the nutrition of feed.

Khaled Jamal Al Ghurair from AKS said, “The National Fodder Production has helped us prepare and market a large feed plant for developing a special feed with sugar syrup named ‘Sweet Shamail’ which can be a good fibre feed wherever the fodder is scarce in the UAE. AKS has made sugar syrup available uninterruptedly at affordable an price with higher service quality.”

The seminar was attended by 100 participants from Saudi Arabia, Oman and UAE, including farm managers, veterinarians, nutritionists, engineers and executives.

Al Ghurair also explained that in order to incorporate higher level of sugar syrup in dry feeds a special equipment ‘sugar syrup coater’ was developed by AKS and installed in a feed mill.

Sugar syrup could be used to feed dairy cows, poultry, horse, racing camels, sheep and goats.
