A day after the Kerala High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the Kathiroor Manoj murder case, Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongman P Jayarajan surrendered before the district session at Thalaserry in Kannur district on Friday.
Rejecting his plea to shift him to a hospital, the court remanded Jayarajan to judicial custody for a month and sent him to Kannur central jail. The court directed him to take up the matter with the jail superintendent. Doctors at the Kannur district hospital, who examined Jayarajan before being taken to the jail, have recommended special cardiac care for him.
The senior CPM leader, who was in hospital since January 30, had arrived at the court in an ambulance at 10am. He was accompanied by his counsel and senior party leaders in the district. A large number of CPM workers had gathered around the jail.
Jayarajan, who was booked by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for conspiracy, under section 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist E Manoj in September 2014 , is the 25th accused in the case. A division bench of the Kerala high court had on Thursday rejected his application for anticipatory bail stating that the case diary contained enough materials to support a prima facie case against him.
Jayarajan told reporters before surrendering before the court that the case was slapped against him at the instance of the all-India RSS leadership.
He alleged that RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat had intervened against him as per a decision taken at a Chinthan Bhaitak (brainstorming session) to project the party as a terrorist party.
