Shaikh Abdullah discusses relations with Chinese FM

BEIJING - Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, met with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, at the headquarters of the Chinese Foreign Ministry here on Thursday.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them especially in energy and investment fields and exchange of visits between officials of UAE and China. They also discussed the latest regional and international issues.

Shaikh Abdullah said that the UAE is impressed with the development witnessed in China. “We are keen to develop a strategic relationship with China in all fields,” he said.

He also congratulated the Chinese Government on the successful holding of Expo 2010 Shanghai.

On his part, the Chinese minister thanked Shaikh Abdullah for his country’s participation in the exhibition noting that it shows the UAE’s keenness to provide a real picture of the development projects and renaissance witnessed there.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials.

Shaikh Abdullah also met the Deputy Chairman of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in the presence of businesspersons and CEOs of companies.

Shaikh Abdullah highlighted the UAE’s plans of diversification of the national economy and wooing of major investment companies to take part alongside the private sector in development initiatives.

He reminded the officials that the UAE is the second largest economy in the Middle East and major hub for re-exportation in the region, besides being the best country in regard to accomplished infrastructure like airports and telecommunication network.

The UAE minister referred to the fast growth of the UAE national economy, stressing the strength of UAE-Sino economic and trade ties.

He reiterated the UAE’s position to diversify economic base through development of the non-oil sector. On his part, the Chinese official hailed the prosperity being experienced by the UAE. The leaders discussed ways to boost the bilateral relations, especially in the areas of economy, trade and investment.
