Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdallah M. Al Zari, Director-General of Sharjah Transport, said: “During a three-day workshop held from March 26 to 29 at the Sharjah Expo Centre, Sharjah Transport undertook a technical study to consider the implementation of the public transport system in the emirate. For this purpose, we have appointed specialised consultants from Singapore (CBG) to conduct the study.”

He said that the Singaporean consultants had prepared the final recommendations which were discussed during the workshop on UITB (International Association of Public Transport). The workshop was attended by five experts from Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, the UK and Jordan. He said that CBG from Singapore also attended the workshop so as to present the draft report of their study.

Al Zari said that Sharjah Transport had studied the report and concluded recommendations to implement the public transport network.

“We still need to conduct a further review so as to make the necessary adjustments on the recommendations. Based on this decision, Sharjah Transport will take the right kind of steps and ST hopes to start the public transport system by the year end," he said.
