SHARJAH- The Sharjah Cultural Days will start this afternoon at the Heritage Area of old Sharjah city in the presence of Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
Organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, the festival will include an exhibition of traditional professions at Al Hisn Museum, an exhibition of old equipment and machines at Beit Al Mawrouth Al Shaabi (traditional inheritance house) and an exhibition featuring leather products at Sharjah Heritage Museum. All exhibitions will open today and continue until April 18. Other functions on the agenda include a fashion show of traditional costumes, folkloric games, hertiage competitions and Al Mutawaa (traditional teacher of Holy Quran).
Those events will take place in Sharjah city until April 15 and will be organised on April 16,17 and 18 in the Eastern Region of Sharjah including Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hism in addition to Al Dhaid.
One of the major features of the festival is the inauguration by Dr. Shaikh Sultan of eight new museums in Sharjah that will enrich the heritage identity of the emirate and mirror all aspects of the by-gone era.
The museums are: the Traditional Jewellery Museum contains a variety of jewellery collections made of silver and gold enchased with gems and pearls used as daily ornaments on several occasions.
The Costumes and Cosmetics Museums contains a wide variety of traditional dresses for women and gives visitors an idea about the sense of fashion which UAE women had in the past as it contains several types of attire, embroidered, materials and model puppets to illustrate the dressmaking procedure in addition to the bride trousseau and cosmetics.
