The employees were honoured in a special ceremony held at the Sharjah Aquarium. The move was in response to the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who earlier this month launched the ‘Thank You’ initiative, urging government departments to use the anniversary of his accession as an opportunity to honour workers in service jobs.

SMD distributed winter clothes, cash gifts, and appreciation certificates to the honoured workers as part of their ‘Our Warm Winter’ initiative, in line with the Department’s eagerness to honour its employees and appreciate their efforts.

Speaking on the occasion, Manal Ataya, SMD’s Director General, said “The UAE is committed to honouring all those who contribute to its development and growth, especially those who work in service jobs. Therefore in response to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s noble initiative, SMD honoured 100 employees in appreciation and recognition of their great work ethic”

She added that the honour would undoubtedly serve as an important motivator and source of encouragement.

The initiative acknowledged the contributions of SMD staff working in service professions, particularly in basic services in the Sharjah Classic Cars Museum, the Sharjah Discovery Centre, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation, Bait Al Naboodah Museum, the Sharjah Archaeology Museum, the Sharjah Art Museum, the Sharjah Aquarium ,the Sharjah Science Museum, the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, Al Mahatta Museum, Bait Shaikh Saeed Museum, and the Sharjah Heritage Museum, as well as SMD’s Facilities and Maintenance Department, Administration Department, and Communication and Development Department.

The honoured staff included 100 workers, among them 20 janitors, 50 security guards, 20 supervisors, and 10 office assistants.

For their part, the honoured employees expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the honour, which they described as an incentive for them to exert further efforts and be worthy of Shaikh Mohammed’s honour as manifested in the ‘Thank You’ initiative. They prayed to Allah Almighty to bless Shaikh Mohammed and the Rulers of the Emirates, and guide them towards what is best for the country.
