Sharjah oasis project to get 500 palm trees

SHARJAH — As part of its ambitious plans to turn maximum areas of the emirate into green areas, the Sharjah Municipality is currently planting approximately 500 high quality palm trees at the Palm Oasis project located at Khalid Lagoon.

The palm plantation project located between Al Noor Mosque and the Holiday Inn hotel was initiated under the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah who aims at spreading maximum greenery in the emirate, and particularly the palm trees, as the tree is of one the popular trees reminding the UAE nationals of their old heritage and culture.

The oasis project, once ready, is expected to be one of the tourist attractions on the lagoon attracting a huge number of visitors who can enjoy and relax at the natural eye-catching setting. The Palm Section, affiliated to the Agriculture and Park Section, is in charge of digging the soil in order to plant the palm trees and is responsible for cleaning and pollinating the palm trees.
