With an aim to improve and develop social communication with the elderly, the multiple events highlighted the importance of the older generation in the community, bringing their social contributions to the limelight and also by creating an atmosphere of joy for this significant segment.

To commemorate the occasion, various events were planned at the Sharjah Art Museum, Sharjah Maritime Museum and Al Mahatta Museum.

The elderly were presented with art workshops and gifts at the Sharjah Art Museum, where staff engaged with them and listened to their stories. Moreover, on the upcoming occasion of Eid Al Adha, executives from the Sharjah Art Museum will pay a visit to the Al Qasimi Hospital to present gifts to older patients.

The Sharjah Maritime Museum has also planned a maritime heritage exhibition about seafaring and ships at the Elderly Care Centre. The event will include a special screening of a documentary film on diving. It will draw to a conclusion with the distribution of memorial gifts to the elderly.

Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Department, said, “The International Day of Older Persons provides an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contribution of senior citizens to society, and we are delighted to host these kind of events to mark the occasion.”
