The amendments will cover the timing of the Sharjah-Abu Dhabi-Sharjah trips, as well as the bus route No: 116 which connects Sharjah city with Khor Fakkan passing by Al Dhaid, Masafi and Fujairah.
Sharjah Intercity Transport Manager Adel Khalil, on Monday, said the move is in line with the commuters’ suggestions which were received at toll free No: 700067000.
“A new bus stop has been added to route 116 close to the Kalba Abattoir located in the Eastern Region of the emirate of Sharjah. Seven daily trips will be operated to and from Sharjah on both directions,” Khalil said. The corporation is running three bus routes 116, 119 and 120 in the Eastern and Western regions.
Khalil said the trips from Kalba to Sharjah will start at 8am, 12noon, 5pm and 9:45pm while the trips from Sharjah to Kalba would be at 8am, 4pm, and 8pm. “The trip in each direction will cost Dh25,” he said, adding that 30 and 50 seat vehicles have been specified for the route.
Yusuf Hammadi, Manager, Sharjah Transport Office, Eastern and Central Regions, said that Kalba station will be put on a trial for three months. “The new bus stop will be fully under our office control for evaluation in terms of the number of vehicles, trips and passengers.” The timing of the Sharjah-Abu Dhabi route has been rescheduled to start half an hour earlier.
“The first trip from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi will start at 4:30am instead of 5am as before, while the last trip is to run from Sharjah at 11:30pm, and from Abu Dhabi at 1:30am instead of midnight,” he said.
“The 17 vehicles operating on the Sharjah (Al Jubail Station) to Abu Dhabi bus route run 40 trips daily in both directions for Dh30 a trip,” Khalil told Khaleej Times, adding that there are more10 trips on the Sharjah-Al Ain route.
Head of Corporate Communication at Sharjah Transport Saeed Abdallah said Sharjah Transport spares no effort in encouraging public transport and providing a convenient shuttle service. “The corporation is now operating 116 vehicles on its 15 intercity public bus routes.”
