Sharjah Upgrades Power, Water Services on Abu Musa

SHARJAH - Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) recently commissioned a power generator for electricity and a water desalination plant on Abu Musa Island, the Khaleej Times was informed.

The power generator has a capacity of 1,200 kilo watts and the water desalination plant can bring out 15,000 gallons per day to ensure better services for the nationals and expatriates living on the island.

“The plant and generator will be fully operational by next week,” said Al Waleed bin Khadem, Director General of Sewa.

He said, the move was an initiative of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and was followed up by Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Sharjah.

Mohammed bin Kanaan Al Suwaidi, a Sewa official in Abu Mousa said: “Previously due to the shortage of electricity, the power used to be supplied only for 12 hours from 9 am to 9 pm.

“Residents depended on candles and other type of energy but now with service being improved, life has become easier.”
