According to the Security Media Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, the butcher and the owner of the sheep have been arrested. A statement from the department on Saturday stated that the animal tried to escape while the butcher tried to slaughter it. It fell from the roof top and crashed on top of a car.The men were arrested for slaughtering the sacrificial animal in a place other than an abattoir. The owner of the ram, who bought it from a livestock market, had promised to pay a sum of money to the butcher for slaughtering the animal on the roof of the building where he lives in.
The Operations Room of the Abu Dhabi Police was reported that a sheep had fallen on the top of a car near Al Najda Street. A portion of the car was damaged, but no human casualties were reported.
The police patrol, which arrived on the scene, found that the owner of the animal, an Arab national, had planned to slaughter the sheep in front of the building. However, later he reached an agreement with the butcher, an Asian, to slaughter the animal on the rooftop.
The sheep escaped from the butcher and jumped over a nearly one metre-high parapet of the building, the police report said, adding that the butcher had failed to cut the animal properly, leaving behind stains of blood.
According to the police, the butcher went down immediately after seeing the sheep falling down and completed slaughtering it while still on top of the vehicle. The owner of the sheep also went down along with the butcher.
The police have warned the public against dealing with wandering butchers and slaughtering sacrificial animals in houses. Sacrificial animals should be examined by veterinary doctors before being cut, and the government has provided modern and well-equipped abattoirs, which follow the latest standards in slaughtering, said the police.
The police also urged the public not to resort to slaughtering livestock in residential areas as it creates hygienic and health problems.
