Dr Adnan Al Pachachi, a former Iraqi diplomat who played a key role in laying the foundations of the UAE's foreign policy, has passed sway. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs expressed sincere condolences, asking Allah Almighty to rest his soul in paradise and grant his family the patience and solace to bear this loss.
"We have lost a dear man and a loyal friend. He has worked with Sheikh Zayed sincerely since the beginning of the Union, and contributed his experience and noble attitudes in bringing the voice of the UAE to the world," tweeted His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Dr Al Pachachi, a former Iraqi foreign minister, worked for many years in the UAE.
He played a pivotal role in the formation of the UAE's political structure, laying the foundations of the country's foreign policy during the rule of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

He moved to the UAE in 1968 and undertook work as a legal consultant for the late Sheikh Zayed. During the formation of the UAE, he served as assistant minister of foreign affairs and Adviser to the late Sheikh Zayed. He went on to contribute to the UAE through several influential government positions and was on the board of directors of some of Abu Dhabi's most important entities, according to government of Abu Dhabi records.
Dr Al Pachachi was part of the UAE mission team that secured the country's acceptance into the United Nations, according to www.abudhabiawards.ae. Subsequently, the UAE became the first country to address the UN General Assembly in Arabic in 1972.
His list of achievements include his contribution to formulating the UAE constitution, helping to lay the groundwork of Sheikh Zayed's early foreign policy and serving as a member of the first Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.
