ABU DHABI - The alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) celebrated the 186th birth anniversary of great Indian Muslim social reformer and educationalist, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, as 'founder's day' yesterday evening remembering services of the great visionary.

More than 200 members of the Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association, Abu Dhabi-Al Ain chapter, assembled at Khalidya Palace Hotel along with their families to mark the day. Syed Ali Al Hashmi, Advisor to the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, specially attended the ceremony reflecting the close and warm relations of the UAE with the University. Sudhir Vyas, Indian Ambassador, was the chief guest while leading businessmen Yousaf Ali of EMKE group and B.R. Shetty of NMC group were guests of honour.

Syed Ali Al Hashmi in his remarks said: "We have very strong and warm relations with India and with the great educational institution - AMU - which has served the humanity by spreading modern education for the last 80 years".
