Six Nabbed for Stealing Power Cables
Worth Millions of Dirhams

DUBAI - The emirate’s police on Tuesday arrested six Pakistani nationals for allegedly stealing power cables worth millions of dirhams from 15 warehouses in the industrial areas.

The cops also nabbed two Chinese nationals who allegedly bought the stolen cables.

The police said they had received a number of complaints from shops selling electrical goods about thefts from their warehouses.

Brigadier Yousif Al Naqbi, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, said following the complaints filed at various police stations, they formed a team to investigate.

The investigations led the team to a warehouse in the industrial area where a large quantity of stolen cables and electrical goods were found. The items were found to be those missing from the warehouses of the shop owners who had lodged the complaints.

The warehouse belonged to two Chinese nationals, identified as Seb Leng and Xu Lu. The Chinese were buying stolen electrical goods from a Pakistani, T. Fayad, and storing them in their warehouse.

The police arrested Fayad, who led them to his partners, identified as M. Kamaran, Farhad Y., Arshad M., Ovais W. and Sikandar S.

They confessed to stealing the items and selling them to the two Chinese men.

Brig Al Naqbi said theft of cables and other electrical goods has become common and urged the companies to post guards and improve lighting at their warehouses .
