Speeding car injures 5 on Mumbai pavement

A Speeding Mercedes-Benz ran over five pavement-dwellers in south Mumbai in the early hours of Friday. The victims, who suffered minor injuries, were rushed to hospital and four of them were discharged.
According to the police, Amin Yusuf Khan, 41, was driving the white Mercedes, with a Jharkhand number plate. The car was owned by his friend and he was taking it on a quick spin after midnight.
However, when he reached Crawford Market, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed onto a pavement, hitting five migrant labourers who were sleeping there. The injured included R. Shaikh (a four-year-old boy), Munira Shaikh, Alisha Shaikh, Rashida Shaikh and Ayesha Khatum.
Seeing that a large crowd had gathered at the scene, Khan abandoned the car and fled. However, the police managed to nab him after a while. He was taken into custody and his blood test samples were sent to a hospital to check whether he was under the influence of alcohol. The report proved negative.
All five victims, were taken to a nearby hospital. Four of them were treated and discharged later in the morning, while one of them is being treated for a fracture.
