The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has fined 110 residential and commercial buildings and factories for storing discarded items in meter rooms. This practice, the authority said, can lead to fire incidents.
Rashid Alleem, Chairman of the Sewa, told Khaleej Times the authority has launched a month-long inspection and awareness campaign to educate owners of buildings and factories about the danger of storing discarded items in meter rooms.
Owners were also told about the importance of using air purifiers with air conditioning systems.
The authority is also educating its staff about ways to inspect and detect illegal power connections as well as water and power meter tampering.
Yassir Eissa Ahmed, Head of Meter Section at the authority, said consumers must adopt power enhancing operations which will reduce the load and improve the efficiency of power networks.
