Students learn importance of zebra crossing

DUBAI — Nearly 200 students, aged between six and 10, yesterday learned the importance of zebra crossing and other road safety measures as part of the third "Little Steps for Safety" workshop.

The workshop was organised by Dubai First, the consumer finance company from Dubai Group, during the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) Summer Camp at Al Safa Hall in Dubai.

The event included a session by Dubai Police on traffic safety, as well as awareness sessions on zebra crossing and safety drills, road safety games and quizzes, painting activities and a competition on road safety aspects.

"Little Steps for Safety" was launched by Dubai First on April 18 as part of its corporate responsibility programme to raise awareness on road safety for children.

The programme is being implemented across schools in the emirate, with the cooperation of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and Dubai Police.

Dubai First CEO Ibrahim Al Ansari, who attended the event, said, "We are very pleased with the response that we have received on the safety workshops till date. "These workshops are not meant for children alone.

"We have ensured adults benefit from them as well, as they hold the responsibility to lead by example in following traffic safety rules and encouraging their children to do the same."

The full-fledged child road safety campaign in the UAE will eventually be extended to other schools in the neighbouring emirates.
