The mathematics conference was organised by the Al Ain Model Preparatory School (AAMPS) on Saturday at the auditorium of the Al Ain Secondary Model School II, in which educationists, teachers and students from all over the country participated.
"The forum was aimed at helping the students develop their skills, train them on effective communication and to groom them to become qualified leaders in different fields of life", said Maktoum Al Badi Al Hersoosi, the deputy director of the Al Ain Educational Zone.
The conference would also helps students to "develop a positive trend towards mathematics with particular emphasis on problem solving and decision making," he added.
"Learning mathematics no longer revolves around memorising theories and rules but on developing the learner's mathematical skills and his ability to make use of them in solving the different problems," Ahmed Au Yousif, the First Mathematics Instructor at the Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY), said. Students Ahmed Salim Al Kutibi and Saif Khalid Al Nyadi, of AAMPS, spoke on the usage of figures in the Holy Quran in their paper titled `Mathematics in the Holy Quran'.
Three girl students from Al Maali Modern School for Girls also took the platform to shed lights on the modern techniques of studying mathematics through the different fun activities in a paper titled `Versatiles'.
The invention and development of figures since the dawn of mankind's civilisation, was the focus of a paper. Students Rashid Al Balooshi, of Al Tamyuz Model School, spoke on the links between mathematics and painting arts. Student Ahmed Salim Al Nyadi, of AAMPS, shed light on the modern numbering system and its significance in our daily life.
