The provision to tackle potential challenges of future events have become a necessity and responsibility for global leaders and decision makers, police officials and security experts have opined.
Speaking during the first session of the sixth edition of the 'Security for Future Foresight 2030', the expert panel stressed that the studies about future challenges are vital to sustain security development.
Brigadier Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of the Sharjah Police, said the future foresight is an essential method to change many aspects of life. "Foresight is a set of activities that aim to give a stronger position in the future and create readiness for the expected prospects. The future of man is the progress of his activity and the motive of his development," he said.
"It is necessary to understand future as something that can be built or formed. Hence, the science of future foresight is now one of the most important sciences."
Brig Al Shamsi pointed out that the UAE launched its visionary strategy to increase the ability to map the future through different modes of assessments - learning long-term potential trends, preparedness for sudden events, identifying available solutions and make right choices and increasing the ability to deal with crises.
Colonel Dr Khaled Al Hammadi, director of Sharjah Police Research Centre, said: "Future foresight is the safest path to enhance security. As a science, it has been able to explore the future with its tools and means of identifying the changes and developments and prominent issues - economic, social or environmental. It will enhance the ability to determine future directions, identification of challenges and ways to confront using the best tools."
Brigadier-General Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman, director of the centre for future and decision support of the Dubai Police, said the prospect is an attempt to explore the future using quantitative methods. "Foresight is not to predict the future but to improve it, and to identify future opportunities and risks so that they can be exploited or confronted, as well as develop long-term goals," he said.
Dr Omar Rashid Al Shehhi, director of the centre for studies and surveys at the MoI, said the concepts, theories and administrative models to achieve global aspirations, leadership and competitiveness are recent developments. "These concepts focus on the efficiency of processes and performance in general. Today, organisations are racing to foster a culture of innovation and future vision.
Lt-Col Sulaiman Mohammed Al Kaabi, director of innovation and future at the Abu Dhabi Police, said they have launched its 2057 plan, marking the start of a golden race era with an integrated strategic programme over the next four decades. "The superintelligence of the future is linked to proactive security and invasion of outer space, and to establish the standards of leadership so as to strengthen the country's position among global competitors."
He added that the Abu Dhabi Police 2057 has been launched in line with the vision of UAE - which aims to ensure that future generations in the UAE live a happier life in a better environment with greater opportunities and have a stronger and more influential connection with the world, making the UAE the best country in the world.
