This was stressed by the Imam of King Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, one of Pakistan’s largest mosques built with funds from Saudi Arabia, during a lecture on Islamic teachings on service to humanity, at the Pakistan Sports and Recreation Club in Dubai on Friday.

Professor Abdul Jabbar Shakir, who is also the chairman of Dawaa (Call to Islam) Academy, cited several events from history and encouraged Muslims to learn from the examples set by the prophets and their followers who spent all their lives serving humanity in every possible way.

“Understand and adopt the Islamic culture which places a strong emphasis on respect for others, justice and the need to be a source of assistance to those in need,’’ he told an audience of over 700.

He said that while ‘belief’ was an integral part of Islam, almost three quarters of its teachings were regarding dealings in society at every level — be it family, business or governance.

He especially highlighted the Islamic system of Zakat and how it ensures circulation of wealth in societies and discourages hoarding. He also urged the audience to learn from the society that existed in Madinah 1,400 years ago as it was a shining example of a multicultural society where people from different faiths and demographics coexisted peacefully.

The lecture was thefirst event organised bythe newly elected office bearers of Pakistan Association Dubai.qudoos@khaleejtimes.com
