The race was part of the 12th camel race festival, which kicked off at Swihan Race Track on Thursday. The event has been organised under the directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The race was attended by a large number of officials, members of Arab and foreign diplomatic corps, national fans, Arab expatriates and tourists.

The race, which is organised every year by the UAE Heritage Club, attracts a large number of national jockeys as participants.

The race in which Shaikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Shaikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan took part saw big challenges among the contestants, who vied for winning the top slots.

Shaikh Hazaa, however, won the first place in the first round, while Shaikh Khalid bin Sultan came first in the second round of the 12-round race.

Local troupes performed traditional folk dances and recited poems glorifying the heritage and history of the country. Poems in praise of Shaikh Zayed were also recited.
