Swedish man crushed to death by school bus

ABU DHABI — A 59-year-old Swedish national was crushed to death by a school bus while crossing the Al Muroor Road near Abu Dhabi’s main bus terminal here yesterday afternoon.

The bus was carrying students of Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Arab Pakistan School after the morning classes.

The accident caused a heavy traffic jam in the area.

According to Col. Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department in Abu Dhabi Police, the accident occurred when the man allegedly crossed the road carelessly.

He died on the spot after suffering from multiple head injuries.

The body has been sent to Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.

The driver of the bus, M.A. is being questioned.

Al Shamsi warned pedestrians not to cross road from non-designated places and said the department imposes fines on drivers who do not stop at designated crossing areas for pedestrians.

Talking to Khaleej Times, Chaudhri Muhammad Munir, principal of the school, said: “We will follow the legal procedures.”
