Three sweet shops in Al Ain were imposed a fine on Tuesday for violating food safety rules following a raid by the restaurants control unit at the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority's (ADFCA) Al Ain Branch.
The inspections on facilities that prepare and sell sweets were conducted to ensure food safety ahead of Eid celebrations.
The inspection covered 51 facilities, in which 13 were given notices and 12 others were served with warnings for their shortcomings.
ADFCA officials found 19 facilities to be abiding with the rules and regulations, while they imposed fines on three facilities for breaching food safety rules.
During the inspection drive, ADFCA inspectors watched closely how the workers handle food during the preparation, cooking and displaying and inspected the equipment. The officials also educated the staff and workers on how to keep various products at different temperature levels to avoid contamination.
Thamer Al Qasimi, Acting Director of the ADFCA Communication and Community Service Division, stated that ensuring healthy food outlets prior to Eid is important.
"The ADFCA is keen to ensure a healthy atmosphere ahead of Eid celebrations. As consumers flock in large numbers to confectionaries and pastries on and before Eid days, we want to make sure that these facilities abide by the rules and regulations perfectly."
"Breaching the laws or compromising in the standards may lead to serious safety risks that could mar the celebrations. Facilities as well as individuals should take extra alert in this regard," he added.
Al Qasimi urged the public to be more responsible while buying food items during Eid days. Should you find any kind of damage in the food product you bought, inform the ADFCA through 800555 immediately," Al Qasimi highlighted.
