With the eighth edition of ‘Takatof Ramadan Programme 2014’, volunteers from the Emirates Foundation have been painting walls and doing some technical repairs and improvements to 21 houses in an effort to enhance the living conditions of these families.

The Takatof Ramadan Programme is a wide-reaching volunteering initiative that engages the youth in a variety of charity activities across the UAE during the holy month.

“These projects came as result of a number of creative ideas submitted by the programme’s volunteers during the different preparatory stages,” Maytha Al Habsi, chief programme officer, Emirates Foundation.

It aims to promote a culture of community volunteering and provide a platform for those interested in volunteering during Ramadan, especially since the holy month fosters the values of good deeds, charity and altruism. The programme also offers young people an opportunity to enjoy the spirit of volunteering during the month of blessing and giving and promotes the concepts of social responsibility and solidarity.

During the first week of Ramadan, Takatof Programme volunteers in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates helped distribute food, clothes and electronic items to poor families in partnership with the UAE Red Crescent.

During the third week of Ramadan, Takatof volunteers will help distribute drinking water during the night prayers in a number of mosques.

The volunteers will also engage with children and organise field visits to families across the UAE and distribute presents and Eid clothing.

The Ramadan project will conclude with the volunteers visiting children with incurable diseases in various hospitals across the UAE, and delight them with toys and some electronic devices.
