Taps in Satwa go dry after pipelines burst

DUBAI — The residents of Satwa were left in the lurch after water taps in the area went dry since yesterday morning following water supply pipes of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) burst.

“The taps in the area went dry from the morning and the water supply was restored only by late in the evening,” Ali Hassan, a resident of Satwa told Khaleej Times.

According to residents, the water shortage hit them badly as they were not informed about the disruption in service.”

When the water supply was interrupted we thought that it would be restored soon. But the whole day Dewa could not manage to solve the problem,” said Ali.

“Each time we contacted Dewa emergency number they assured us that the water would be restored within an hour. But they took the entire day to solve the problem,” said Sundharan, another resident. “We bought bottled water even for basic needs. I went to Deira to a friend's room to take a shower,” he added.

Meanwhile, shops selling bottled water reported brisk business as most of the residents were left without any other choice but to buy bottled water. “We sold out all our stock by afternoon. Then we ordered new stocks immediately to meet the sudden increasing demand,” said a grocery owner.
