Team Formed to Address Red Tide Phenomenon

ABU DHABI - The Ministry of Environment and Water has chalked out a national plan aiming at reducing the effects and hazards of the red tide phenomenon, which appeared in the Eastern Coast of the country recently.

Responding to a question regarding, what measures the Ministry had taken to curb the danger of this phenomenon, and its impact on human health and the environment, the Minister of Environment and Water Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad said that a team had been formed to deal with the situation.

He added that the plan includes setting up of remote-sensing stations to monitor such phenomenon. The minister said dumping waste in the sea is the main causeof pollution, thus violating the environmental law.

Several tonnes of dead fish have been washed ashore due to the red tide but the minister however assured the public that the fish was safe for human consumption.
