The next Undertaker or The Rock could be from the UAE as tryouts for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) have taken place in the country this week. The tryouts were for the WWE Wal3ooha, an Arabic version of the WWE. It is a new weekly show that will be featured on OSN.
Stephanie McMahon, the chief brand officer of WWE, was in the UAE promoting the new show. "We certainly hope that we have found the new The Rock, Kurt Angle, Triple H or Undertaker. The trials in the past four days have been incredible. We've had 40 people from at least 20 countries who tried out," she said. "I certainly hope and pray that we have found the next big WWE superstar."
A total of 10 females also tried out for the show, mainly, residents based in the UAE.
McMahon, daughter of Vince McMahon, and married to Triple H, said that WWE stars will also be making guest appearances on the show. "I might even make a guest appearance on the first episode, you never know. You'd have to tune in and find out," she said. "I think there is a very strong and dedicated fan base in the Middle East, but we have to grow it. Having an Arabic show will definitely serve that fan base."
Professional magician, Moein Al Bastaki, and basketball star, Nathalie Mamo, will be the presenters of WWE Wal3ooha, which translates to 'light it up' in English.
"We've been the home of WWE for many years and it's been a strong partnership. What was lacking was an Arabic show whereby, the real fans can connect to their heroes and get into the heart of the action," said Martin Stewart, the CEO of OSN.
"Reaffirming our position as the region's premier entertainment network, OSN is proud to be part of creating and delivering another unique and exclusive show for the region. Providing more value to our viewers and catering to the WWE's loyal fan base in the Middle East, the show is about sharing the passion of WWE. WWE Wal3ooha will relive the best action from the week gone by, in another one-of-a-kind programme."
The WWE partnered with OSN, to bring the show to the Middle East, and will be premiering on OSN Sports Action 1 HD on May 4.
