In the land of golden desert dunes and starry skies, a desert safari is the ultimate experience for anyone living or visiting Dubai. The unique and stunning desert settings have a wonderfully mysterious atmosphere like no other place in the world. Whether you choose to spend a night surrounded by sandy dunes star-gazing, go dune-bashing in the bright sunlight or watch a romantic sunset or sunrise, you will never forget your desert experience. If you know your way around the desert land, you can plan your own safari; all it takes is a bit of preparation. So gather your friends, family, and plan your route for a great trip.
Destination
You should know where you are going. The desert is pretty close, just off any remote road and there are special desert camps for a few options. However, it is best to do some research or ask knowledgeable people for best locations. And don't forget that you need at least two 4x4s SUVs for your trip - the more the merrier and safer (in case someone gets stuck).
Camping gear
If you're planning a day's stay or an overnight camping experience you will definitely need some camping gear. Tents, sleeping bags, chairs, and a mat to spread over the sand are at least four things you should pack. Nights at the desert can be freezing so be sure to take some extra covers to keep warm. Some firewood for a nice fire will be an idea you won't regret.
Food
Water is more important than food. Have enough water for your trip with some back up, because the desert can get extremely hot in midday and staying hydrated is your number one responsibility. In terms of food, if your safari is only for a couple of hours, you can do with some snacks. However, if you plan on going for a longer period of time, consider making a BBQ right at the desert or buying something to keep you going throughout the day or night.
Clothes
Wear light clothes and shoes. Staying too long under the sunlight may give you sunstroke, so wear a hat or a cap. Sandals and flip flops are perfect shoes for a safari, easily kicked off for some barefoot walking over the soft sand.
Camera
Your phone might seem enough but you will come across some amazing scenes in the desert landscapes, so it is much better to have a real camera. And if you don't feel like packing and organising, you can always book a safari with a tour company.
Best part about desert safari in Dubai by tour companies is that they have more activities and entertainment options.
