In terms of food, if your safari is only for a couple of hours, you can do with some snacks. However, if you plan on going for a longer period of time, consider making a BBQ right at the desert or buying something to keep you going throughout the day or night.
Clothes
Wear light clothes and shoes. Staying too long under the sunlight may give you sunstroke, so wear a hat or a cap. Sandals and flip flops are perfect shoes for a safari, easily kicked off for some barefoot walking over the soft sand.
Camera
Your phone might seem enough but you will come across some amazing scenes in the desert landscapes, so it is much better to have a real camera. And if you don't feel like packing and organising, you can always book a safari with a tour company.
