McDonald's and Domino's may be two of the most popular fast-food companies in India, with millions of burger and pizza fans, but they have been beaten hands down by the desi Haldiram's in the country.
Haldiram's, with an annual turnover of Rs4,000 crore, is now the biggest snacks maker in India.
The Indian snack major, which started as a business venture with a small shop in Rajasthan's Bikaner, posted a 13 per cent revenue growth to cross Rs 4,000 crore in FY16.
The halwai and snacks maker is now twice the size of Hindustan Unilever's packaged food division or Nestle Maggi and larger than the India turnover of the two American fast food rivals Domino's and McDonald's put together, according to an Economic Times report.
According to revenues for 2013-14, Haldriam's had revenues of Rs3,500 crore, which is more than the combined revenue of Domino's (Rs1,733 crore) and McDonald's (Rs1,390 crore).
The popular two-minute snack, Maggi, netted a revenue of Rs1,200 crore but Haldiram's is almost three times bigger, the report said.
