The Appeal Court commuted their two year prison sentence earlier passed by the Criminal Court.
Court records show that the two Indians lodged a complaint with the Fujairah Police, that three unidentified persons posing as as police detectives, stopped them in a dark area on Khor Fakkan Road and after pretending to search them took their money and cell phones. They were
asked to collect their belongings from the Fujairah Police station later.
However, when they went to the police station, they realised that the men had conned them.
They then provided descriptions of the men and their car in detail.
The Fujairah police initiated investigations, and tracked down the culprits identified as Pakistani nationals Obeid Mohamed Jacob and Abdullah Qader Khan and Yusuf Shiragh, a stateless person.
The culprits were charged by the Public Prosecution for impersonating as police officers, and robbing money and cell phones.
They were referred to the Criminal Court, which ordered them to serve two years in prison each, while maintaining the complainants right to claim compensation before a civil court.
Being dissatisfied, the accused resorted to the Court of Appeal presided by Justice Abdullah Al Salami. Osama Al Rashidi as representative of the Appeal Prosecution, was also present. The court reduced their previous two-year jail term to six months in jail.
