Associated with all things shiny and bright, Diwali celebrations are incomplete without some bling thrown in. Be it bold jhumkas or striking bangles, adding baubles to your outfit is the easiest way to take your look to the next level. Offering a wide variety of elegant pieces since 1991, Khushi Jewellers, one of the oldest brands in Meena Bazaar, specialises in 22k gold jewellery, 18k diamond jewellery as well as dazzling Polki and Kundan jewellery that make for coveted pieces.
Mohit Khatwani, Director, Khushi Jewellers, tells Khaleej Times: "We are a single store and one of the oldest in Meena Bazaar, which is our USP, and completed 25 years of operations last year. Khushi Jewellers specialises in handpicked wedding bridal jewellery and have established a loyal customer base. The brand is known specially for its unique designs in Polki jewellery."
Khatwani highlights that this is a family business that started when his father moved to the UAE almost 50 years ago. "We originally started in film distribution and the first cinema in the UAE was started by us. Khushi Jewellers is something we pioneered into as at that time none of the stores in Meena Bazaar was into jewellery and we were the first to open a jewellery store in the area," he shares.
According to Khatwani, trends are constantly changing today and there is lots of competition in the market. "But luckily, we have our loyal customers and they keep coming back to us for our unique designs, customer service and the personal relationship that we have cultivated with them," he adds.
Glittering collection
For Diwali, Khushi Jewellers has unveiled a dedicated rose gold collection in diamonds and solitaires that comes in an array of gorgeous earrings, rings, bracelets and bangles.
"The rose gold collection is quite the rage right now in India and is turning out to be a big hit in the UAE as well," says Khatwani. "The Diwali collection also has a lot of affordable price ticket items. Our speciality is big sets and we will always have them. But our collection also has lots of beautiful and delicate bangles and earrings. Furthermore, we have a brand new Polki collection and antique Kundan collection exclusively for the festive season."
He highlights that a major trend that has been spotted is that previously long earrings were quite popular but now fashionistas are gravitating towards smaller ear tops and a ring. "The preference is shifting from extremely fancy sets to more delicate pieces as people like to keep it simple yet elegant. Clients are looking to buy jewellery that they would wear regularly, as compared to a one-off piece," he adds.
Although gold is synonymous with Diwali, Khatwani observes that the younger generation is keener on investing in diamonds. He says, "They also tend to make impulse purchases when they see an eye-catching emerald ring, a stunning bangle or evil eye bracelets."
Every festive season, Khushi Jewellers hosts a Diwali exhibition that allows people to get a glimpse at the latest collections in advance. "We host the exhibition every year and tie up with our suppliers and get their collection displayed just in time for Diwali," he adds.
Promotion bonanza
Khushi Jewellers is hosting a bumper Diwali promotion that will be running until October 31. The store is offering up to 75 per cent off on all diamond jewellery and a free gold coin on purchases.
Khatwani highlights, "The festive period brings with it the attraction of what's the gift? We start getting enquires about promotions almost two weeks before Diwali and it has become a trend in the market. It's great because it's that time of the year when you look forward to receiving gifts and we want to give back to the customers as well. We have offers on gold jewellery as well where we are giving silver coins as well as the silver note."
The silver note is being launched by the store for the first time and is a replica of the Indian rupee note that comes in 10 or 20 gms of silver. "Gifting silver is considered auspicious during the festival and usually everyone gifts coins. But we thought of offering something unique to the market," he adds.
When asked about future plans, he says, "Our focus for the future is to eventually jump on the e-commerce bandwagon, as we see a lot of scope in it. - deepa@khaleejtimes.com

Top tips to accessorise
- Opt for a matching bangle and ring or earring.
- Don't go over the top. Minimalism is more in, as outfits have gotten so heavy that there is no need to overdo accessories.
- Blue is a very in colour at the moment, so opt for colourful pendant sets to jazz up the outfit.
