Top Malayalam writers honoured at gala night

DUBAI — Prominent Malayalee writers Paul Zacharia and John Samuel were honoured with awards and cash prizes for their literary contributions at the first Gulf Arts and Literary Academy (GALA) Awards and Cultural Nite at Shaikh Rashid Auditorium on Thursday.

Senior Indian Consul R.C. Nair gave away the awards at a function chaired by Gala’s patron Issac Pattaniparambil John. Jose Panachipuram, associate editor of Malayala Manorama, was also present.

A UAE based poetess Zaheera Thangal was also honoured at the function, according to Jose Antony, president of Gala.

Santhosh Varghese, general manager, Toshiba Computers, Dr George Mathen, managing director of Hyper Group, and Babu John, managing director Sky Jewellery Group, gave away the cash awards.

Famous singers Venugopal and Radhika Thilak were also honoured at the event.

The highlight of the evening was a musical tribute to the famous South Indian composer Devarajan Master by Venugopal and Radhika along with young generation singers Dipin and Reshma Menon. A captivating three-hour cultural panorama parading more than 35 local talents was another attraction.
