Eissam Issa Al Humaidan, Dubai Attorney-General, has instructed the Drug Prosecution on taking the necessary procedure with the drug and narcotics users convicts, as per the modifications made to the Drug Law and refer their cases back to courts to demand reduced rulings.
Al Humaidan has assigned the Drug Prosecution with examining all rulings issued in drug use cases, before the new law took effect, before referring them back to the same courts whereas the new law, which considers the charge as a misdemeanour rather than a crime, would be implemented. The convicts would then benefit of reduction of sentences as per Article 13 of the UAE Penal Code.
Al Humaidan said the new law aims at best practices to counter drug crimes and protect the youth against drug addiction. With the new law, the drug addicts will be given new opportunities to quit the habit by reintegrating them into society as good individuals after their recovery. The legal texts will be implemented concerning their reformation and rehabilitation.
The convicts are also required to be keen to not repeat the offences.
